NMA_ThumbThe National Museum of Australia commissioned Suzanne to produce personal history and documentary installations for their exhibition From Little Things Big Things Grow.

The exhibition traces the fight for Indigenous civil rights in Australia from 1920 to 1970, and draws on the personal stories of Indigenous and non-Indigenous activists, rarely seen objects and protest materials to tell a largely unknown, national story.

Jack & Newell

J-and-N-thumbThe Jack & Newell oral history project grew out of Suzanne's own interest in a family owned firm that were once a household name in the Far North.

In partnership with four local historical societies, Suzanne set about recording the stories of former employees and customers of Jack & Newell Ltd, and developing a website where the stories could be shared.

Lit Sung Goong Temple

LSG-ThumbThe Cairns and District Chinese Association Incorporated (CADCAI) approached Suzanne to produce a DVD showcasing the beautiful Lit Sung Goong Temple collection.

This nationally significant collection is currently in storage, as there is no permanent exhibition space for the collection in Cairns.

Oral History Training

NGRMG-ThumbThe Northern Gulf Resource Management Group asked Suzanne to put together an oral history recording kit and a training session for their workers and members.

Suzanne sourced all the equipment for a basic kit (including a very dust proof and durable case); edited a manual for the use and loan of the kit; and ran a workshop on the use of the equipment and the principles of oral history recording.

Centenary of National Parks in Queensland

Centenary of National Parks in QldThe Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service commissioned Suzanne Gibson to record a series of oral history interviews to commemorate 100 years of National Parks in Queensland.

As well as the interviews, QPWS wanted an audio installation for the Queensland Museum, and a 60 minute documentary feature for distribution as part of their corporate commemorative package.

Remembering Larry

Remembering Larry DVDSuzanne Gibson was commissioned by the Queensland Government and the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC Radio) to record and archive some of the many stories of Cyclone Larry, which crossed the Far North Queensland coastline in March 2006.

The DVD 'Remembering Larry' contains oral history interview, stories, poems, images and video footage collected from local people throughout the cyclone affected region.

The Mareeba-Dimbulah Tobacco Exhibition and Archive

Mareeba Dimbulah Tobacco ArchiveThe Mareeba-Dimbulah Tobacco Exhibition and Archive began as a broadcast radio documentary and series produced by Suzanne Gibson for ABC Radio.

Realising the industry was about to be closed down in Far North Queensland, Suzanne teamed up with photographer Kerry Trapnell to document in words and pictures the last seasons of tobacco growing in North Queensland.

Atherton Chinatown
Suzanne was commissioned by Gordon Grimwade and Associates to research and record a series of oral history interviews for the Atherton Chinatown project. SGC also produced a series of short audio packages for installation in the Atherton Chinatown museum.
 
Croydon Lives
Suzanne also worked with Gordon Grimwade and Associates on an oral history series for Croydon Shire Council. Suzanne researched and recorded 12 interviews with current and former Croydon residents, and produced a thematic CD for use in the Croydon visitor centre.
